DAY 1 – Kasane
We depart
Livingstone at 9:00am and head for the border to Botswana, where after border
formalities, we cross the Zambezi River by ferry, on our way to Kasane. Kasane
is a pleasant town situated on the edge of the Chobe National Park and the Chobe
River. This afternoon we begin exploring the National Park from the River on a
scenic boat cruise. Elephant, hippo and many bird species including the regal
African Fish Eagle and Pied Kingfisher can be viewed from the boat while we
watch another glorious African sunset. (B / L / D) CHALET
DAY 2 – Makgadikgadi
Pans
This morning we are
greeted by the sound of the resident Hippos! After breakfast, we make our way
south to the Makgadikgadi Pans (weather permitting) where we get our first
glimpse of the semi-arid Mopane woodland scenery. The Makgadikgadi Pans are
rumoured to be the largest salt pans in the world and present a rare sight of a
completely flat, white, vegetation free area, surrounded by plant life only on
its edges. (B / L / D) TENTED CAMP
DAY 3 – Maun
Today we travel to
the Maun, the gateway to the Okavango Delta. The town has many shops, markets
and modern facilities such as internet cafes. We spend the afternoon at leisure
preparing for our trip into the Delta tomorrow. (B / L / D) TENTED CAMP
DAY 4 – Okavango
Delta
After an early
breakfast we depart via 4x4 vehicles to the Delta Region. We drive to a mokoro
(local dugout canoe) station where we meet our local guides & polers who will
escort us on today’s excursion. The Okavango Delta is a huge expanse of water
that has travelled from the Kavango River from the Angolan highlands, and fans
out onto the upper Kalahari region to form the largest inland Delta in the
World. Studded with exotic islands, the Delta is renowned for its incredible
variety of bird life as well as many other animals unique to Southern Africa. We
explore the channels and waterways by traditional means in a mokoro – this is
the local form of transport used to traverse the many waterways of the Delta. In
the late afternoon we have the option to observe the Delta from above by taking
part in an optional scenic flight. (B / L / D) TENTED CAMP
DAYS 5 & 6 – Moremi
Game Reserve
We head off early
for the Moremi Game Reserve. Moremi lies on the eastern side of the Okavango
Delta and is home to many different species of Wildlife. It is here that Lion,
elephant, buffalo and many other species are often sighted. The Game Reserve
itself covers a little over 1000km˛ and was declared a protected area in 1961
when the widow of Chief Moremi the 3rd feared that the wildlife was
under threat due to hunting. We game drive within the park to seek out some of
the resident wildlife. (B / L / D) TENTED CAMP
DAYS 7 – Savuti
Continuing on
through the wilderness, we game drive further north-east into the Savuti region.
The Savuti is well known for the prides of lion that make it their home. Tonight
we enjoy the sounds of the wilderness from deep within the heart of Botswana. (B
/ L / D) TENTED CAMP
DAY 8 - Chobe
National Park
Once through the
Savuti, we once again reach the Chobe National Park, entering from the southern
side and exploring the more remote inner section of the park. Chobe is one of
Botswana’s premier game parks, renowned its large elephant herds. (B / L / D)
CHALET
DAY 9 - Livingstone
This morning starts
with an early morning game drive into Chobe National Park to explore the river
front area by vehicle. We return in the late morning, and make our way back to
Livingstone via the Kazangula Ferry. We have the late afternoon at leisure to
relax along the banks of the Zambezi. (B / L) CHALET
DAY 10 – Trip Ends
