On arrival at Paro Airport, transfer to hotel. Afternoon, visit National Museum and Paro Dzong. Overnight in hotel.

 

DAY 02: PARO-THIMPHU


This morning follow the winding road beside the Pa Chu river (Chu means river) down stream to its confluence with the Wangchu then up-valley to Thimphu. Lunch at hotel. After lunch visit Memorial Chorten. Overnight in hotel.

 

DAY 03: THIMPHU-GENEKHA


Drive till Charkilo, which is 20km from Thimphu. At Charkilo the ponies will be waiting for you to begin the trek. Overnight in camp.

 

DAY 04: GENEKHA-LABATAMA

 
Todays trek is all the way up till you reach the highest point for the day Pagalaptsa alt.4, 170m. From here you can view the village of Genekha and some parts of Paro valley. From the pass you hike down for an hour besides the Yak herder's camp, then you will reach to your camp. Overnight in the camp.

 

DAY 05: LABATAMA [Halt]


Excursion to Setso and near by lakes. Hike to Setso is very easy day. Takes only fifteen minutes. Afterwards you can go over a small ridge and then down to Jagetso, Pemitso etc. Whole day fishing and exploring and return to camp. Or start quite early with packed lunch and follow the same trail up passing Jagetso & Dagetso up to Jomigue pass. From the pass you start the real climb to Jomo. After two hours of hard work on the rock reach the summit of Um Jomo near 5,050m. From where one can have the spectacular views of all around if the weather is clear. Lunch at the summit if it is not too cold for you. Descend back to camp.

 

DAY 06: LABATAMA-JADULA


Today you have a gradual climb of 2-3hours to reach the Jomigue pass alt. 4,460m. From the pass some of the mountain of northern Bhutan can also be viewed. Then descend for about two hours you will reach to Jadula. Onernight in camp.

 

DAY 07: JADULA-JAPHUNA


The trail from Japhuna takes 1-2 hours through Rhododendrons bushes and then hike up and down over ridges till you come across a small valley. Another 2-3hours you will reach to a small stream where you find two trails one crossing the streamed other going up the stream. Both the trails will lead you to the same destination. You may stop by the stream for lunch. After another hour you will reach camp called Japhuna alt. 3,800m. Overnight in camp.

 

DAY 08: JAPHUNA-TALEKHA


From Japhuna continue gradually climb till you cross a pass called Jelezela alt 4,000m. From there the places like Phajoding, Yuesepang etc. and further towards north the astonishing snow peaks of Jou Dake Gang, Chomolhari, Jichu Drake, Jo Gang, Gangchen Tak, Masangang, Tseda pass down hill for 2hours. After going over two ridges reach into a soft pine and spruce and then slowly into thick forest of blue pine and evergreen oak tree for 1-2hours till Talekha monastery. Alt. 2,925m. Overnight in camp.

 

DAY 09: TALEKHA-THIMPHU


From Talekha hike all the way down through the blue pine and shrubs of evergreen oak trees till Semtokha Rigney School where the vehicle awaits for you. Drive to Thimphu. Overnight in hotel.

 

DAY 10: THIMPHU-PARO [Departure]
Early morning drive to Paro Airport for your onward departure flight.

 

 

Alternative Itinerary.

DAGALA 1000 LAKES TREK.

 

Day 01: ARRIVAL at PARO


Arrival at Paro Airport and transfer to hotel. Afternoon visit National Museum and Paro Dzong. Overnight in hotel.

 

DAY 02: PARO – THIMPHU

 
After breakfast drive toThimphu. Lunch at hotel. After lunch visit Memorial Chorten, Nunnery, Handicraft Emporium and evening at leisure. Overnight in hotel.

 

DAY 03: THIMPHU – GENEKHA [Trekking]


Drive till Genekha Village, which is 40kms from Thimphu where you will start your trek. Overnight in Camp at Genekha beside the river bank. Overnight in camp.

 

DAY 04: GENEKHA – LABATAMA [Trekking]
Today's trek is all the way up till you reach the highest point for the day, Pagalaptsa alt.4,170m. From here you can see view of whole Himalayan ranges. From the pass you hike down for two hour besides the Yak herder's camp, to your camp. Overnight in the camp.

 

DAY 05: LABATAMA [Halt]


A days halt at this place will give a chance to visit many lakes around the place. Setso is the closest lake which takes only fifteen minutes walk. The rest of the lakes are further away which can be easily covered in a days excursion. A days excursion will discover many lakes on the top of this mountain. Once you get on the top of the pass you can have the spectacular view of the surrounding mountains around during the clear weather.

 

DAY 06: LABATAMA – JADULA [Trekking]


Today you have a gradual climb of 2-3hours to reach the Jomigue pass alt. 4,460m. From the pass some of the mountain of northern Bhutan can also be viewed. Then descend for about two hours to Jadula. Overnight in camp.

 

DAY 07: JADULA – JAPHUNA [Trekking]


The trail from Japhuna takes 1-2 hours through Rhododendrons up till the valley and Another 1-2hours to the lunch place. After another hour you will reach to the camp site Japhuna, which means a Rock Cave at an altitude of 3,800m. Overnight in camp.

 

DAY 08: JAPHUNA – TALEKHA [Trekking]


From Japhuna continue the gradual climb till you cross Jeleze La Pass at alt 4,000m. On a clear day you can get the a good view of Jou Dake Gang, Jhomolhari, Jichu Drake, Gangchen Tak, Masangang. After 2-3 hours gradual descend through the thick forest of blue pine and evergreen oak tree will reach you at Talekha monastery at the altitude of 2925m. Overnight in camp

.

DAY 09: TALEKHA – THIMPHU


From Talekha hike all the way down through the blue pine and evergreen oak trees till Semtokha Dzong where the vehicle awaits your arrival and drive to Thimphu. Overnight in hotel.

 

DAY 10: THIMPHU – PARO [Departure]


Early morning drive to Paro Airport for your onward departure flight.
