SUMATRA A JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY

Day 1 Arrive in Bahorok (L)
Arrive Medan and drive westward for about 3 hours to Bahorok. Enroute  passing through several small town followed by vast view of rubber palm oil plantations with some countryside landscape. You will have a welcome jungle lunch on your arrival at Bukit  Lawang. Overnight stay in Pan Eco in the jungle on the banks of the beautiful Bohorok river.
 

Day 2 Elephant Safari (BLD)
After breakfast we’ll take about 3 hours driving  off road by jeep to Tangkahan passing several small villages with some countryside landscape. Sometimes the track is up and down which make the trip become unforgettable. You will have a simple lunch enroute.  Arrive at Tangkahan Lodge by crossing the river with a canoe. In the afternoon you act like a ranger to check the jungle by riding an elephant passing the plantation, jungle and crossing the river. Overnight stay at a simple jungle lodge of Tangkahan.

 

Day 3 Jungle Trekking and Tubing of Leuser National Park (BLD)

Dawn gives way to a new day as the sounds of a jungle symphony awakens you. Here you will experience a life style that is little changed from past generations. Today you will trek into the Leuser National Park covers an area 9000 square kilometers heart of the Sumatran rainforests, home to may diverse and exotic species  of flora and fauna. It’s one of the most endangered ecosystem in the world. Following along the edge of a crystal clear mountain stream, take a refreshing swim to break the trek. Here you can enjoy tubing down to the lodge. After lunch back to Bahorok.

 

Day 4 Orang Utans Expedition ( caving, trekking) (BLD)

Today you will explore the dark and mysterious depths of ancient caves. Visit Orang Utans Sanctuary at Bukit Lawang. walk along the riverbank  to the crossing point and cross the river by a small canoe to the sanctuary. Hike up the hill through the rain forest until the feeding site of the Orang Utans. Today you will trek into the heart of the Sumatran rainforests, home to may diverse and exotic species of flora and fauna. Afternoon back to Pan Eco Lodge.


Day 5 White Water Rafting (BL)
Bahorok - Rafting over Wampu river. After breakfast we transfer you by car to Mariki, the starting point of your Wampu river rafting experience. This Wampu river rafting trip is a fascinating adventure with many grade 2 rapids. You will raft with local guides. The trip takes about 4 hours down the Wampu river. You will enjoy the beautiful nature, sailing on a wide jungle river in the midst of an unspoiled impressive rainforest. All around you can see and hear the tropical wildlife. Half way we will make a stop at a waterfall where  you can take a fresh shower and lunch in the open air. After lunch you will continue the rafting for about 2 hours until you reach the bridge of the Bohorok river. After you return to Bahorok and overnight stay in Medan


Day 6 Medan – Padang – Bukittinggi (BLD)
After breakfast transfer to the airport for your next destination Minangkabau Land. You will take 50 minutes flight to Minangkabau International Airport.

You will have a seafood lunch before transfer to Bukittinggi where you will stay at four star hotel Pusako.

 

Day 7 Walking Tour (BLD)

Today you will explore the area by visiting Sianok Canyon, Japanese Tunnel, Harau Cliff, Koto Gadang Village. In the afternoon transfer to Nuansa Maninjau Resort where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Maninjau Lake. Dinner will be provided in the resort.

 

Day 8 The voyage (LD)

Arriving in Padang, you will meet your local trekking crew who will inform you of the current island conditions. The Mentawai Islands are in Indian Ocean, approximately 100 km to the west of Padang. Now the island is also a paradise for surfers. Your journey begins with a morning crossing to Siberut the largest island in the chain. Overnight stay at local simple guest house in Muara Siberut.

 

Day 9 – 12 Siberut Trek (BLD)

You will arrive in the early hours of the morning at Siberut port, from here you commence your trek into the islands interior. A moderate level of fitness is required as the trekking can be demanding, balancing on slippery logs along muddy tracks in the tropical humidity. You will however be rewarded with stunning views and beautiful jungles abounding with unique plant and wildlife. The real highlight of your journey though, is the chance to meet the people of Siberut, traditionally hunter, gatherer clans who are now coming into contact with the modern world. You will stay as guests of a local Kerei (medicine –man) in the Uma (traditional family house). Here, where conditions are basic, you will gain a unique insight into the lives of these people who maintain a belief system based on living in total harmony with nature.

 

Day 13 – 14 Masilok Beach…beach…beach.. (BLD)

Trekking to the south of the island you will discover idyllic unspoiled white sandy beaches : perfect for swimming, snorkelling and beach combing. Today you will stay at a local simple guest house at Masilok Beach.

 

Day 15 Back to Muara Siberut (BLD)

After breakfast you will take a motorized canoe back to Muara Siberut. Overnight stay there.

 

Day 16 – 18 Island Resort (BLD)

Your voyage to Padang will take 3,5 hours to Padang. Here you can enjoy a much appreciated hot shower in the air conditioned comfort of your hotel, take the time to contemplate the complexities as well as differences of this world. In the afternoon you will transfer to island resorts of your choice (Cubadak Paradiso Village or Sikuai Island Resort) where you can enjoy snorkelling, swimming or just lying down on the white sandy beach. Or you can take an optional diving trip.

 

Day 19

Transfer to Padang and overnight stay at four star hotel, Bumiminang.

 

Day 20 End of the tour (B)

Free for your own before transfer to airport for your next destination.

 

 

The price is inclusive of :

 

Accommodation Eco Lodge, Uma ( traditional family house) and  01 night at Pusako Hotel ****, 01 night at Nuansa Maninjau Resort *** 01 night Sedona Bumi Minang hotel **** (twin sharing) + 3 nights at your choice resort.

Meals, while in the city or major town you will eat at good quality restaurant or hotel and while trekking our guide will prepare simple but satisfying meals. Please inform us if you have any special dietary or vegetarian requirements at the time of  booking ,Tea and coffee and English speaking guide and porters. All transfers.

 

NOTE : For more comfortable trip we take an express ferry that takes only 3,5 hours. But in case if the weekly schedule changed or cancelled we will take the wooden ferry and have an overnight trip to Siberut.

Good and comfortable trekking shoes, Comfortable suits and T - Shirt, Sandals/slippers, Warm cloth, Rain coats, Day pack, Flash light, Binocular, Camera, Personal medicine and first aid kit and other personal things.
