Nepal Adventures
Royal Safari Chitwan National Park
Safari
Available
year-round 3 days 2 nights Royal Chitwan National Park including transport.
After the rich cultural experience of Kathmandu valley, this package offers
you two unforgettable nights at one of the resorts of the Royal Chitwan
National Park accompanied by wildlife safari on elephants, canoe ride and
nature walks to view the myriad flora and fauna.
Of all the world's remaining jungles, one
of the most enchanting is Royal Chitwan National Park in the Himalayan
Kingdom of Nepal. Here, at Chitwan Jungle Lodge, you will discover a lost
world of towering trees and twisting vines; of pre-historic rhino and
lumbering elephant; of crocodile, python and deer; of brilliantly colored
birds and if you are fortunate -the superb Royal Bengal Tiger.
To fully experience the jungle you must
live within it -nothing less will do. Chitwan Jungle lodge lies in the park,
on the banks of the river Rapti. Only the sounds of the nature disturb the
peace of the forest-birdsong, the rustle of deer in the bushes or the
tempting call of elephants. From the moment you wake at dawn to roam through
the jungle on elephant back, to the quiet talk around the camp fire at day's
end, Chitwan Jungle Lodge offers an unforgettable experience.
Walk deep into the jungle, led by one of
the lodge's experienced naturalists; or journey by Land Rover to distant
hills, far from the world of man. Drift down river in a dug-out canoe, past
a pageant of bird life; or watch, by flickering firelight, the dances of
theTharu people. Our naturalists are here to share their knowledge of the
jungle with you, and our new visitors' center and slide show are packed with
information to enrich your stay.
Nothing can equal the excitement of seeing
the magnificent Royal Bengal Tiger. Of course, no-one can guarantee a tiger
sighting, but the search itself is enthralling, taking you far into the
jungle. Beneath the forest canopy grows a riot of plant life - flame of the
forest, wild fig trees, exotic orchids a veritable feast of nature.
Seated high on the back of a trained
elephant, exploring the grasslands and forest, you become a part of the life
of the jungle. It is the experience of a lifetime. On our elephant safaris
you will approach closely but safely to some of the world's rarest animals,
including sloth bears, bison and the awesome one Horned Rhino, including a
large variety of colorful birds.
The River Rapti glides past the jungle,
snaking its sinuous way through wide grasslands, rushing over shallow rapids
and meandering between sandy banks. A journey down river by traditional
dug-out canoe offers you the chance to quietly observe the exotic species of
birds and animals that drink at the water's edge.
Only 4 ½ hours scenic drive from Kathmandu
(or an exciting white water raft trip down the Trisuli River), Chitwan
Jungle Lodge lies deep within the jungle. Built from Natural materials it
blends perfectly with its jungle surroundings, and offers luxurious
facilities.
All the individual bungalows at Chitwan
Jungle Lodge are perfectly blended with natural surroundings. The rooms are
tastefully decorated with private solar powered hot and cold running
showers.
In our dining hall Continental, Chinese,
Nepalese buffet dinner, lunch and breakfast are served. Our open bar is
located in between the conical shaped kitchen and dining hall with thatched
roofs. It has a well-stocked bar. Adjoining to it you can also buy some
souvenirs.

ROYAL CHITWAN NATIONAL PARK
Please inform
the Lodge Manager if you wish to do any different or independent activities.
Also, if you want to walk out of the lodge and down to the swimming hole,
ensure that a guide accompanies you. Never wander about the jungle yourself.
Chitwan Jungle
Lodge is very comfortable and in a great location within the park.
Facilities are not luxurious - there is no electricity in the Park, so all
lighting is by hurricane lantern and candle. Hot water for showers comes
from solar heating. However, after trekking, it will seem luxurious, and we
are sure you will appreciate the rustic style. The food is excellent - a
combination of western and traditional Nepali. The friendliness and
knowledge of the staff will be a highlight of your stay here.
Situated in the
Rapti Valley, Chitwan National Park is approximately 80 miles southwest of
Kathmandu by road. The region in which the park is situated is known as the
Terai, a flat and highly cultivated plain which constitutes the entire
southern quarter of the country. Extremely hot in the summer while mild and
cool in winter, this region produces most of the country’s food. Early this
century, the Terai was a rarely visited jungle expanse with very few
inhabitants, the only visitors being members of the Nepalese upper class on
hunting trips.
During the
1950’s malaria was eradicated and the population began to expand rapidly.
The jungle was slowly cleared by loggers and farmers in search of new
fields. Conservationists soon realized that if action was not taken it
wouldn’t be long before all the animals of the Terai would be extinct. Thus,
in 1962 King Mahendra designated Chitwan as a rhinoceros preserve. In 1973
it was finally gazetted in parliament as the first national park in Nepal.
Today there are
only about a thousand one horned rhinos left in the world, and over 300 of
these are in the Chitwan National Park. Fewer than 2000 tigers remain in the
sub continent, more than 40 live in Chitwan. There are many other animals as
well: the fish eating gharial crocodiles, buffaloes, sloth bear, hog deer
and wild peacocks.
Remember, that
although there are many animals to be seen in Chitwan, it is not a zoo. Nor
is it like the vast open plains of southern Africa. It is a small compact
jungle park where you must go out and find the animals. Bear in mind that it
is even possible that you may not see anything at all. Yet if you rise early
in the morning and go on a jungle walk or elephant ride with the park
guides, you are very likely to spot some wildlife. It should also be noted
that there are over 400 species of birds living in the park, and if you are
interested in bird watching there will be plenty of opportunities.
Recommended
Clothing
A jacket or sweater
from November through February. Lightest clothing with sunglasses and hats
from April onwards. Pants should be worn during elephant rides. No wallets
etc. in the back pockets as they may fall out. Bright colors such as red and
white should be avoided since these colors have been known to upset the
rhinos. Comfortable walking shoes are essential. Please carry only the bare
necessities but not jewelry and valuable things. During the warmer months
swimming suits are recommended. We wish you a happy stay.
