TORAJA HIGHLANDS, RAFTING & HIKING
 

 

The cultures of people on the island, dominated by the Bugis in the south, and the Christian Minahasa in the north make the cultures of the island developed in unique ways, especially the Christian-animist Toraja people who live in their beautful highland in the north of South Sulawesi Province, who attract large number of visitors every year.

 

Dotted with volcanoes, protected by the mountains and walled by thick jungle make the inland of Sulawesi are serenely beautiful and challenge those who have the spirit of adventures.

 

Trekking to Limbung Village through deep interior of Toraja and spectacular mountain scenery to the headwater of the Maulu a splendid and pristine river flowing through tropical rainforest in the heart of Toraja. Excellent class II-III rapids are interspersed with cool refreshing waterfalls and calm floats.

 

 

 

TORAJA HIGHLAND TERKKING & RIVER RAFTING

Duration: 06 DAYS / 05 NIGHTS

Start & Finish: MAKASSAR AIRPORT

 

 

DAY 01 : MAKASSAR – TORAJA LAND

Upon arrival at Hasannudin airport (Ujung Pandang), our guides will meet you for direct transfer to Tana Toraja. Lunch will be served in Pare-Pare. Several stops will be made enroute according to local happenings. Accommodation and dinner at Marante Highland Resort. (L,D)

 

DAY 02 : TORAJA LAND

Breakfast at hotel. Full day excursion in Tana Toraja includes visits Lemo where we will find rows of tau-tau and the hanging graves. Onto Londa to see an ancient natural grave where the deceased are entombed with big ceremonies. Proceed to Kete Kesu - a traditional Torajan village where can see the Tongkonan and the old rice-barns and it is famous for its woodcarving. Lunch will be served in Rantepao. Afternoon return to hotel. (B,L,D)

 

DAY 03 : TORAJA LAND

Breakfast at hotel. Fullday explore Tana Toraja to visit Pallawa, Sa'dan - the weaving center. Marante and Naggala - a traditional Torajan village known for its large Tongkonan and 14 rice barns. Lunch will be served in Rantepao. Return to hotel. (B,L,D)

 

DAY 04 : TREKKING TO LIMBUNG VILLAGE

Breakfast at hotel. We leave the populated area of Tana Toraja to visit outlying villages. We use a combination of driving and trekking to get between villages. Here is a mountainous area with exquisite rice paddies and traditional houses. By getting away from the travelled areas we are an oddity that attracts the local attention and encourages interaction. In the evening the village we stay at will perform a local dance. Overnight will be spent in thatch-roofed bamboo huts called pondoks, in a traditional village. (B,L,D)

 

DAY 05 : MAULU RIVER RAFTING - PAREPARE

After breakfast, from the village of Limbung we trek into the panoramic Gorge of the Maulu River. A 30 minute hike down into the canyon walls, lush scenery, the raging river and eagles overhead make for a hike never forgotten. Class III white water, appropriate for beginners yet exciting for veterans, awaits us. Scenery includes polished stone Cliffside, hanging vines and terraced rice fields. The journey is 5 hours long until we take out at Rembon. Then drive to Pare Pare for accommodation at Bukit Indah Hotel. (B,L,D)

 

DAY 06 : PARE PARE -  MAKASSAR

Breakfast at hotel. Drive back to Ujung Pandang with a stop at Puncak Lakawang for lunch. Arrival in Ujung Pandang in time to catch your flight for your next destination. (B,L)
