Pyramids and Sinai
10 days - Cairo to Cairo
If you’re considering one
of our trips to Cairo and Greater Egypt, this Pyramid and Sinai tour
highlights Egypt's main historical sites, the Pyramids in Cairo and the
Valley of the Kings in Luxor, coupled with the laid-back, hedonistic
atmosphere of Dahab on the Red Sea.
Day 1 Cairo You will be met at Cairo Airport and
transferred to our hotel. For those who arrive in Cairo before 6pm, there
will be an evening meal with your Oasis Tour Leader. Today is a free day
with no activities planned. (One meal)
Day 2 Cairo Accompanied by our local Egyptologist Guide
we visit the Egyptian History Museum, a must-do during trips to
Cairo. In the afternoon our guide takes us around the Pyramids and Sphinx
at Giza. We also include a group camel ride while at the
pyramids! After our evening meal we transfer to the hustle and bustle of
Cairo Railway Station where we take the overnight train to Luxor.
(Two Meals)
Day 3 Luxor In the morning we are transferred to our Luxor
Hotel. The morning is free for you to explore Luxor. Your tour
leader will give you maps, information and a number of options. You can
visit the local souk or walk along the Nile Riverbank and hire a
felucca for a couple of hours or, if you wish, sunbathe on the Hotel's
roof terrace where there is also a small swimming pool and a great
view of Luxor.
In the afternoon, we visit Luxor Temple which is on the bank of the
Nile near the centre of town and less than five minutes walk from our Hotel.
Once joined to the Great Temple of Karnak by an avenue of Sphinxes, part of
which still remains, this elegant temple was built by a succession of
Pharaohs including Tutankhamun and Ramses II, and Alexander the Great.
The vast Karnak Temple
complex beats every other monument in Egypt except perhaps the Pyramids of
Giza. Built on an awesome scale (it does house the gods after all!) its
Levithian size will amaze you! Your visit is by horse drawn carriage
and in the evening there is also the option of the Sound and Light Show.
(Two meals)
Day 4 Luxor Today is the day many have been waiting for. We
take a ferry to the West Bank of the Nile where we mount our
donkeys for the trek to the Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the
Queens and the Valley of the Workers (in mid-summer we may use an
air-conditioned mini-bus instead of donkeys). Again we have a local
Egyptologist Guide who will show us through a number of Pharaoh's
tombs during a pyramid tour and explain the 3000 year old history of the
Pharaohs, their mummification and journey through the underworld. (Two
meals)
Day 5 Luxor & Hurghada You will have a free morning in Luxor
to finish exploring this fascinating city. After lunch we travel for four
hours by coach through the desert to the Red Sea resort of
Hurghada where we spend the night in a local hotel. (Two meals)
Days 6-8 Dahab Crossing the Red Sea by hydrofoil we
land in the Sinai Desert. The nomadic Bedouin who occupy the
Sinai generally have a much more laid-back attitude to life than their
Egyptian neighbours. This will become evident to you over the next three
days that you spend in Dahab. With year-round sunshine and warm sea
temperatures, Dahab's unique atmosphere makes this THE place to visit on a
trip to Egypt. Besides the party mood that pervades Dahab with its lively
Bedouin Pubs and quirky beach restaurants, this part of the Red Sea is
also recognized as one of the world's top diving locations with
spectacular underwater coral gardens and marine life.
You can snorkel to some
of this coral literally within metres of the beach, go scuba diving, trek
through the desert by camel and quad bike or visit St Catherine's Monastery
and Mount Sinai where Moses received the Ten Commandments. (One meal
each day)
Day 9 Dahab We spend most of the day in Dahab. After
our final day relaxing on the Red Sea, we travel overnight back to Cairo.
(One meal)
Day 10 Cairo Today marks the end of our trip to Egypt, and
group members will be flying out at different times during the day, most of
them in the evening. Additional accommodation can be arranged if you wish to
stay on. (No meals provided)
At the end of our trip in Egypt there is the
option to extend your stay in Dahab. We will still arrange your transport
back to Cairo and include your return airport transfer. Ask us or your tour
leader for details.
Please also note that the as part of the tour cost, an Egyptologist guide is
included to the following sites and temples: Egyptian History Museum and
Mummy Room in Cairo , Sphinx & Pyramid tour at Giza, Luxor Temple as well as
The Valley of Kings, Queens and Workers.
Also unlike some of our competitors we do not charge a Single Supplement
rate for our trips to Egypt and we do inflate the costs of ANY optional
excursions - you decide what YOU want to do and pay for it direct to the
local operator at the time of doing the activity.
